Thanks so much for the warm reception to the announcement of my Sew With Me collaboration with Sew News Magazine. I am really happy with the patterns, as they combine interesting details along with classic shapes.
I hear all the time from my students the need for more beginner-friendly patterns from me, as both the Sylvie and Emery have 8–16 darts, depending on the version you make, the Chelsea and Derby aren't ideal first garments, and though the Marianne is easy, not everyone wants to start with knits! None of these garments are especially hard, but they aren’t ideal projects for a brand new garment sewer. I think the Departure Shift and the Anya Skirt are both good for that void in my line up, and the Josie Sundress and East Side Tunic have lots of details if that’s more your thing.
I love seeing my designs sewn up and modeled, and I do plan to my own photoshoot, but as this project is wrapping up at the same time as my man passing away, I haven’t been able to arrange my own shoot yet. Luckily though, Sew News shot them for the pages of their magazine and have shared the images with me, so I can then share them with you!
Once nice detail, is that these are actually some of the samples I made for myself for on set, so instead of my usual models, these are worn on a size 10 model, which is a refreshing change for my site. I love my ladies (and they are dear friends of mine, so no skinny shaming please!), but the diversity is a lovely change.
On that note however, I am shorter than this model, so PLEASE NOTE that while the model is beautiful, and my size around the body is quite similar to hers, she is taller than me, so everything appears a little shorter on her than they should look. Though considering I didn't make these to fit her specifically, everything else fits pretty darn close, so I'm grateful for that! Again, I will sew up custom samples for my own shoot in the future, but in the interim I wanted to share these with you, because other than the fact that the garments appear a little too short, I think Sew News did a pretty wonderful job.
Lastly, a HUGE thanks is in order to Alexia Abegg for securing all the great Cotton + Steel fabric for me to use for all my samples and for on set. These all look great thanks to all your lovely prints!
Okay, enough with the explaining! On with the photos!
