Travel Tuesday: The Jardin des Plantes

Paris has many gardens that are worthy of visiting, but if I were only allowed to visit one garden while in the city, there would be no question as to which I would choose: the Jardin des Plantes.

Simply put, I love this place. It is one of my favorite spots in my favorite city on the planet. So yes, I love it beyond words. The Jardin des Plantes is not your average garden. It was founded as a medicinal herb garden in 1626 by Guy de La Brosse who was Louis XIII's doctor. The garden is set up in rows with labels for everything as it is still used as a research facility today.

In addition to the plants, flowers, and herbs, there is an area with winding paths through trees, topped with an old gazebo, as well as a menagerie, founded in 1795 with animals from the royal menagerie at Versailles.

It truly is a magical place and I have fond memories of visiting each and every year. Have you been? Tell me your favorite thing about it!
