I pretty much wear handmade everyday, but documenting myself everyday on Instagram is such a challenge! I really do not like taking selfies! But since I love seeing your makes, I decided to participate in Me Made May again this year. I knew that I was traveling to New York to teach at Workroom Social at the start of the month, so doing a choreographed consistent location everyday for the photos wasn't going to be possible. Also, I spent most of the month crippled with a seized back and pounding migraine, (if you saw me in the first half of May and I looked remotely normal, it's thanks to a shit ton of pain meds!), so needless to say, there were many days when I was in loungewear and not in a place where I wanted to have my photo taken. Sadly this back and neck pain has slowed my sewing way down, but thankfully the migraine and ear buzzing is gone, and the sore back and neck are recovering. So that's all great. But my outfits were quite a bit more casual this month than I normally wear, so it's not necessarily a fair account of what I always look like, but it is an honest record of my month.
With all those factors in mind, I decided to show snippets of me wearing handmade in my real life. They're not overly posed, they're not pre-thought, and they're what I was really wearing. No offense to anyone, but some of those Me Made May photos are totally staged and some of the photos are old. I wanted to be honest about what I was really wearing, and if that happened to be a tee and yoga pants, then that's what you were going to see. Because that's me wearing handmade in my real life, not me staged in a photo studio like a model. That's my only complaint of Me Made May: all the overly staged photos. I'd much prefer see an honest account of your real outfits instead of seeing people use the event as a marketing or PR opportunity. But that's just me. Anyway, mini rant over! (Though if you have thoughts on this, I welcome them in the comments!)
Also, the thing you're not seeing in any of these photos are the unsung heroes of the month: my handmade bras! Almost everyday I wore one of my newly made bras under what you're seeing here. I didn't document them on me, because I am not showing you photos of me in my bra! But know that they're under these outfits nearly everyday.
Below is a collage of all the photos from the month. I only missed one day (May 22), but all the other days are here, for better or worse. All are on our Instagram account with details on the fabrics and patterns used, but I'm also happy to answer any questions below in the comments should you want to know more on what I used. So here is my month of May in order from day 1 to 31. Thanks to all that followed along! And huge thanks to all that posted photos of them wearing our patterns during the month too! It's a thrill to see you in our makes, so always remember to tag us!
