The Best of 2013: Sewing

I love end of year round ups, don't you? So I thought, why not throw my own end of year favorites into the mix! Of course, since this is a sewing blog, we'll start with sewing! But other posts full of favorites are soon to follow, so watch out for those too!

Oh, but of course, let me just get the obvious out of the way: I love my Emery Dress, but these favorite round ups aren't about my patterns, they are about my favorites that aren't of my own doing. Okay, so, on to my favorite sewing things of the year!

Favorite Pattern - Laurel

If you know me at all, you know I love the Laurel Dress from Colette Patterns. Love. It. It is hands down the easiest garment in the world to wear. It is flattering, yet loose; clean and modern, yet full of mod retro flare. I love this dress so much. Have you made one yet? Do it, but be warned, you will won't be able to stop at one!

Favorite New Designer - Pauline Alice

Earlier this year I was reading a blog and saw a dress called the Cami Dress by Pauline Alice. It is a classic shirt waisted dress, but has a few nice touches, like the folded sleeve with tab. I bought it and wondered where this designer might go after this dress, as I usually do with any new designer.

Well, the next pattern to my delight was a lovely Balenciaga inspired drop waisted garment, the Malvarosa Dress. Again, lovely details abound in this seemingly simple garment, with a drop cap sleeve and hidden pockets in the gathers of the skirt. Adorable!

But then last week, Pauline did it again and released a third knock out pattern, the Ninot Jacket. Yes, that is a jacket with my name all over it! Suffice it to say that I am genuinely impressed by all of these patterns and eagerly await what 2014 holds for this lovely lady!

Favorite Fabrics - Rashida Coleman Hale, Ellen Baker, and Robert Kaufman Chambray

This year I met the lovely Rashida Coleman Hale and completely fell in love with her designs for Cloud9 Fabrics (and she's pretty darn lovely too!). Her most recent Koi collection is in my personal stash, and you might remember it from all the Emery Dress Sew-Along posts! Yep, my Emery (soon to be revealed) is made from her gorgeous fabric.

Ellen Baker has had two collections with Kokka and I adore both for their minimal simplicity. It's hard to find that line between feminine/minimal/interesting/unique/vintage but she does it perfectly. It too is in my stash, waiting for the right project to be cut up!

Lastly, I know I'm not the only one who fell head over heels for the chambray union fabrics from Robert Kaufman. Man, that collection is the bomb. I really wish I hoarded an entire bolt of the voile-like chambray with tiny woven dots for myself! It's a true 60" wide and it is simply divine. Find it!

Favorite Craft & Sewing Magazine - Mollie Makes

I adore the UK publication, Mollie Makes. It's jammed packed full of super cute girly and vintage-inspired news, tutorials, and always has a free treat included. My most recent one had a lovely 2014 calendar that I promptly hung at my studio desk. Adorable!

Join me for more end of year favorites to come! And tell me, what are your favorites? Let me know in the comments! I'd love to hear!
