I'm taking a brief break on my fall pattern to whip up a new dress from Colette Patterns. It hasn't been formally announced yet, but Sew L.A. is going to host another party with the lovely Sarai and Kenn from Colette Patterns in September to launch their new fall patterns! Stay tuned for lots more on that! So of course I need a new Colette dress to wear, and if I show up in another Peony Dress, I'm pretty sure people will start to wonder about my closet and it's diversity, or lack there of!
So I set off to make the Hazel Dress and so far it's going together really well and very quickly. I made a muslin for the bodice in a size 8, which is what usually fits me in their patterns, and I didn't need to adjust a thing. Hurrah! The only change I made was to use the width of the size 18 for the skirt pieces so that they'd be gathered more. Haley made one and forewarned me that the skirt probably wouldn't be as gathered as I'd like, so I heeded her advice and it worked out perfectly!
Last night I cut the fabric and I'm almost done already. All I have left to do is sew on the facings, install the zipper, and hem it. All in all, a very quick sew! Though as I write this, my man is working on installing a dishwasher in my kitchen (yay!) so I might be distracted at any second, thus delaying finishing this afternoon. But that's worth it!
For the dress I chose a gorgeous indigo linen with one inch white pin stripes that was in my stash. One of the joys of the LA garment district is being able to find quality designer fabrics. This yardage is from Giorgio Armani and is 60" wide! I'm not sure if this is the version I'll be wearing to the party or not, as I'm not quite done yet, so this might be a wearable muslin. But we'll see...
I promise more photos of me in garments. I just am not good at shooting myself yet! I must get better at it, I know!
